Valeo Completes Australian Marine Test

Valeo successfully completes its field test of new onshore tracking system for major yacht charter fleet in the Whitsunday Islands, Queensland, Australia.

TAMPA FL. – May 13, 2006 – Valeo Corporation, a leading fleet asset tracking solution provider recently completed its design, development, and field test for its onshore fleet tracking system developed for one of Australia’s largest bareboat yacht charter operators. The new light watercraft tracking system allows fleet management to track from onshore the entire fleet at sea, in virtually real-time via a specially developed desktop web interface.

To ensure clear customer requirements were fulfilled, Valeo Account Director, Ned Shamon, traveled to Airlie Beach, Queensland to meet and with fleet management and field test its onboard communication equipment at the remote locale. “The satellite communication configuration and protocols in the southern hemisphere are entirely different from our client deployments in North and Central America. There are few firms with the expertise to successfully deploy consistent and reliable satellite communicators in this part of the world. Through a lot of development work and extensive trouble-shooting with engineering teams located on three continents, we’ve succeeded.”

While onsite progress occurred Down Under—back in the states, engineers developed a customized client web interface that illustrates sailing yachts’ positioning via highly accurate mapping, licensed from the Australian Hydrographic Service. “There are many fine geo-mapping sources, like Google Earth,” says Shamon. “The fleet’s management wants ensure their charter customers’ safety with the most accurate marine mapping available. We provided that and audible onboard alerts when boats near one of the many hazards found around the Great Barrier Reef.”

Valeo is on schedule to have the bareboat fleet’s dozens of yachts configured and installed by October 2006.
